Search inside a site using google search

Written on March 28, 2008 – 5:32 pm | by Sanil S

Experiencing difficulty in searching a keyword inside a particular site which doesn’t have a search functionality ?

Here is the solution use google domain search. Normally we search a keyword by typing the keyword in google search box. Instead type google search bar with specific syntax, ‘keyword site:http://targetsite.com’.

I will demonstrate it with an example I need to search a keyword ‘mobshare’ in all the documents in http://mobme.in. Use a syntax like below.

Check out the result of the google search.

Interesting ? cool :-)

Software as a Service (SaaS)

Written on March 26, 2008 – 9:23 pm | by Sanil S

This is a modern software application delivery model, in which vendor develop the application, host and maintain the applications by themselves.

Traditional applications are Application service provider or on demand applications. So customer need to pay for the entire application. Moreover customer might not be interested in all the service provided by the software. This create customer a feeling to pay less for the application. All most all traditional desktop applications are on demand or application service provider model.

As web space bringing more attention to customers the idea of software as a service arise. Now web act as a platform to help and enhance service based access to infrastructure, applications and business processes. You can see that almost all modern web 2.0 applications follow the software as a service model. Customers do not pay for the entire application rather than they pay only for use. Even the vendor can expose there service via API which may be web service or REST calls. Since the application resides centrally any patch can be applied anytime without any hurdles. Recent survey says that software as a service and cloud computing holds most strategic values in the coming years.

Let me bring your attention by demonstrating an application. One of the popular platform fastalerts where customers can send alerts which can be sms, email or voice alerts. If I am a customer of the application I don’t need to pay for using application rather than that I pay for the sms. I can purchase sms packages and send from the application. I hope now you got a clear idea what is SaaS?

Exclude gmail chat conversation from search result

Written on March 25, 2008 – 5:27 pm | by Sanil S
This entry is part 2 of 14 in the series gmail tricks

Weird of seeing chat result while you search particular content in your gmail ? Here is a solution for it. You can exclude any folder using a string append to the search string, “-label:folder name”. For example you need to exclude chat conversation by simply adding the string “-label:chat” with search string. Below figures demonstrate it.

without label

Without applying the label criteria.

with label

With label criteria. You can see that chat conversation is excluded from the search result. Like wise you can exclude any labels. If you have a label “forwards”, and that need to be exclude while searching do add a string ” -label:forwards” along with the search string.

How relationships builds up?

Written on March 21, 2008 – 2:05 pm | by Sanil S

relationship

Mirror your partner’s dreams; the relationship will grow.

Normally men and womens are not aware how and when the relationship builds. If both men and women are very much competent in expressing themselves, then its sure there minds really like to build a relationship :) . The more they spend there energy, time, money etc then they really like to keep a relationship between themselves. Relationships may also starts with long telephone calls, meetings and regular updates among both about there day by day activities. If any of these happens in your life i will say one thing. Definitely you need to bring attentions and give priority to the relationship. If that is not going to happen between them, the relationship doesn’t survive much.

After getting into relationship just look as a third person you can really feel a lot of happiness Go back to the way how the relationship builds its really interesting. You know a magnetic phenomenon “opposite charges attracts”? yes that is also applicable for human beings. Just look at your relationship there is a good chance that the committed peoples does have opposite characters. Typically human being seeks people who are not like ourselves, because we don’t always like what we see in ourselves, that is the reason behind this. If you are like this then the subject of conversations compared to others are very much.

The more you share the more your relationship build ups. You need to care and give mutual respects, it strengths your relationships. If this continue for a period of time, there is always a temptation taking everything for granted. If this happens then you are truly into love. Don’t spoil it enjoy, invest maximum energy for it :) .

Routing mechanism in symfony

Written on March 20, 2008 – 5:17 pm | by Sanil S

Symfony Logo

Symfony is one of the coolest framework for web application development in php I have ever used. We can make a blog application in less than an hour, such a simple the framework it is.

Symfony is purely MVC based framework. We can build application very fast using this framework, as a lot of configuration files are there to manage and configure web application properties. Only Symfony developers need to care about this topic. The modules in the symfony application can have different actions. Lets say a module ‘user’ with action ‘login’ carry out the user login of a client session. Then the applications login session’s URL may be something like this http://myapp.com/index.php/user/login. This can’t be simple recognized by search engines. So rewriting those URL to http://myapp.com/login make sense to search engines. Now i am going to discuss how it can be achieved simply by editing a configuration file, routing.yml.

Simply edit routing .yml in ROOT_DIR/apps/application name/config folder.

Add a conf like below

routing

This will routes the request from http://myapp.com/login to http://myapp.com/index.php/user/login. But it is happening only on the application server so the search engines are not aware about this internal routing.

India Next Trillion Dollar economy

Written on March 15, 2008 – 12:57 pm | by Sanil S

chidambaram

Yesterday I attended a seminar at Hotel Residency, “Budget review 2008″ conducted by Motilal Oswal. I was not well aware about all terminologies in market trends analysis. It was an excellent seminar, I am really impressed with the terms and terminologies they discussed. In my last chapter what is GDP i mentioned that india is now a trillion dollar economy. I was very much interested in seminar after hearing the term cos I made some research sometimes back about it.

They discussed the growth of India and explained how we became the part of growth. They are saying India is the 12th largest country which have this much GDP. Rather than that during the last financial year India attained the greatest GDP rate in the world. You know one thing all of us contributed for the growth. I think Motilal Oswal conducted this for there promotion purpose. Anyways it was interesting and interactive seminar.

Some aspects they explained are below.

1) During the last five year India attained maximum growth.

2) India is a country which give more importance to agriculture. In 1991 onwards India started giving consideration to IT enabled service and it was success.

3) In 1991 IT enabled companies are the sunrise companies ultimately people who invested to those sunrise companies gains.

4) In 2008-09 budget India gives more importance to agriculture, energy, tele service, auto mobile industry etc. So ultimately those sector are the sunrise companies now. While explaining this point the presenter asked to the attendees who all invested in Reliance Power. A few of people raised there hands. All of us know that Reliance IPO value went down on the day first itself. Presenter asked the attendee, then why you invested in Reliance power ? The attendee’s answer was interesting he see it as a sunrise company and he is looking its gain in near future so he invested. Yes this kind of market analysis needed while investing in share.

Anyways hope this year we will attain maximum GDP growth.

Experiments with economics chapter 2 what is GDP ?

Written on March 13, 2008 – 7:54 pm | by Sanil S

indian GDP

I am really interested in studying economics now a days. I started studying economics some times back. In my first chapter what is economics i mentioned the word GDP, gross domestic product as i told that i will explain later. Simply speaking we can measure the size of an economy by using GDP. Its the total value of goods and service produced in a given country.

GDP = total consumption + gross investment + government spending + (export – import), simple formula this is the market value of particular country.

Now you are getting some doubt, did this stuff important to you? My answer is yes if you are a citizen. Since it is the yardstick for countries growth. If the GDP value is higher then the country is producing consuming more etc. That means the country will create more jobs more profit in business etc. Happy to be an indian, six months back india marked as trillion dollar economy.
