If you are using gmail browser chat sometime while switching browser tab you might miss some of the IM alert. Sometime the gmail doesn’t produce an alert. The solution for this problem is using Gmail Chat Alert 0.3.0.
By using this plugin you can even add your own audio file for as alert tone.
The gchatalert would be a great add-on to Firefox, but each time I try to install it, Firefox stops the installation in the middle, popping a window that says “Incompatible extension. The installation will not be allowed BECAUSE IT DOES NOT PROVIDE SECURE UPDATES”.
I have no idea what this means, but perhaps you could make sense of it?
I sure hope so. Gmail’s chat notifications definitely s u c k and I can’t understand why some clever programmer can’t come up with a way to make the browser tab at the bottom of my screen turn a bright orange color when there is incoming chat message, just like AIM.
This is because your firefox version is not compatible with that extension. I hope the programmers will develop the new version soon.
I have the latest Firefox version 3.0.7, and will still not install, which begs the questions: (a) how was this tested by the developer, (b) what’s the point of this add-on if nobody can use it?, (c) can the add-on be made “by the book” so it installs?
