These days many people look for hybrid laptops that can operate like full-fledged laptop and a good tablet at the same time. Dell has recently entered into the production of such devices with the introduction of Dell XPS 12. It comes with a flip screen, which is certainly a unique feature for the Indian market. Dell XPS 12 is one of the first Windows 8 notebooks that can be converted to a tablet within few seconds. It comes with a gorgeous display, clean design and excellent build quality. It also comes with a backlit keyboard and touchpad. The battery life is also really great. Here is a review of this device given below:
Design and Hardware
The most attractive feature in the design of this device is it’s screen, which is actually a tablet that spins around an axis passing through a thin rectangular aluminium frame with rounded edges. It allows you to quickly switch between a tablet and a laptop. It comes with a 12.5-inch full HD display and the supporting magnesium alloy frame makes it strong and durable. The screen is covered with a scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass as well.
If you are fond of watching movies then this laptop offers the perfect treat for your eyes with it’s high definition display. You may find the chiclet keyboard very comfortable to use. Though the keyboard is well arranged, you will still miss a dedicated numeric keypad due to space constraints. The only problem that you may find in this device is it’s weight. You may feel very uncomfortable to use it as a tablet at over 1.5kg.
When it comes to hardware, the device is available in three variants, depending on the CPU. You can choose between third generation Intel i7 and i5 processors. The RAM remains the same for all variants. Storage options in the device include 128 and 256GB SSD drives. You can always store data on external storage drives, but you won’t find a microSD card for this device at all.
Software and Performance
The software suite of Dell XPS 12 is of great standard and consists of Windows 8 and a few of Dell’s own services. The system boots in about 9 seconds. You will find it very smooth to use this device even when multiple applications are running in the background.
For normal usage that involves using office applications, internet browsing, listening to music and watching YouTube videos, then the battery may last for around 6 hours. This is pretty cool when it uses power draining components like a Full HD touchscreen, a power-optimized Intel Core i5 CPU, and an SSD.
This laptop is priced at Rs 95,000, which is quite expensive.
If you’re looking for a Windows 8 computer and you wish you to enjoy the full experience, then this is the perfect choice for you.
