Huawei Ascend Y300 was launched in India this month. It is the latest budget friendly smartphone in India which comes under Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) category. This handset is looks somewhat similar to Ascend G330 in terms of specification, but it has a completely different design, battery plus a new version of Android. It comes with a 4.0-inch (800 x 480 pixels) capacitive touch screen IPS display. This smartphone is powered by a 1 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Play (MSM8225) processor. Here’s a review of this phone presented below:
It has a 4.0-inch IPS display with a resolution of 800 by 480 pixels and a pixel density of 233 ppi The bezels on top and bottom edge will make it look more compact. This phone has a 11.2mm thickness and it weighs just 130 grams. It has a plastic body and the back has a textured finish. It has a user interface with the app list all together .There is a smart tutorial to learn the software which makes it easier for first time android users.
You can find a VGA front-facing camera above the display which is 0.3-megapixel.This 5-megapixel rear camera comes with LED flash. The ear piece is on the top most edge, above the Huawei branding. On the other side there is a LED notification light, which is invisible if it’s not glowing. This is a nice addition to the phone, which is usually not found on Android phones in this price range.
Though this phone has a bright screen but still it offers poor colour reproduction. The viewing angles are also not so good. The display is also prone to fingerprints and you need to clean it often. The phone’s camera UI is also quite simple.
The Music Player is simple, but it doesn’t have an equalizer. The FM Radio doesn’t have RDS support. It can play 702p videos smoothly. The loudspeaker is also not so audible.
On the whole, Huawei offers a good package in the Y300. It runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) which is quite rare these days, apart from few Samsung devices. The build quality and battery life is also quite good. The power saving mode helps you to extend the battery to more than a day. This phone also comes with a LED notification light, which is quite rare to see in a mid-range phone these days. At a price tag of Rs. 7980, if you need an Android 4.1 device with good build, then it’s definitely a good option. However it does not offer a good camera and audio experience.
