Add Your Location to your Signature in Gmail

Written on February 11, 2009 – 6:45 pm | by Milin Paul

When we send a mail from gmail, the mail is enclosed with subjects, mail ids, time stamp of the mail and so on. But there is no option to know where the mails comes from (the location), or from which place the mail sent. But now Gmail activated an option in the Signature to say “Where am I” to the mail recipient. Now Gmail appends the feature to detect your location and appends the city region and country names to your signature, Read the more about entry here.

Gmail is Now Offline

Written on February 4, 2009 – 1:18 pm | by Milin Paul

Web-based emails are great because we can check the mails from any where irrepective of the place. But it is limited to the internet connection. But there are lots of times, we can’t access the webmail because of the unavailabilty of internet connection. Now that problem is cured by Gmail by introducing their Gmail Offline. So if we are offline, just open the browser and go to the gmail.com and , get the mails are we usually do.

This is done by the help of Google Gears. Gmail uses Gears to download the local cache of our mails. When we lose the internet connection Gmail automatically switches to Offline mode and use the local hard drive to store the information instead of sending across the network. We can read mails, star, label and whatever we want to do when we are doing it in online.

To enable this service:

  • Click the Settings and Labs Tab
  • Select Enable next to the Offline Gmail
  • Click Save Changes
  • After our browser reloads there is a new tab Offline near to the username. Click to activate the Offline mode. If you dont install the gears previously try to install along the process.

Google blogsearch updated

Written on October 2, 2008 – 1:01 pm | by Sanil S

Google blog search recently got updated with resemblance to techmeme, memeorandum and their memetracker counterpart.

This tracker will track latest news in business, politics, technology and displays in the web page. so that you will be updated by latest development in the world. May be I can say something similar to what google reader does. The main difference is in google reader we subscribe our interest but in blog search you will be updated with couple of predefined tags like business, technology, politics etc.

Search inside a site using google search

Written on March 28, 2008 – 5:32 pm | by Sanil S

Experiencing difficulty in searching a keyword inside a particular site which doesn’t have a search functionality ?

Here is the solution use google domain search. Normally we search a keyword by typing the keyword in google search box. Instead type google search bar with specific syntax, ‘keyword site:http://targetsite.com’.

I will demonstrate it with an example I need to search a keyword ‘mobshare’ in all the documents in http://mobme.in. Use a syntax like below.

Check out the result of the google search.
